Lightning Tai Chi was founded by Master Bob Hsing in 2002. Master Hsing has devoted his life to studying different forms of Chinese martial arts including Tai Chi, Shaolin, Weapon and Chi Kung; and has studied under the renowned Tai Chi master Ueng Ru-Yuan, an apprentice of Master Cheng Meng-Ching (郑曼青).
Lightning Tai Chi combines the traditional Yang’s soft and slow style with Chen’s bursting style to form an explosive yet harmonious synthesis of both. Long-time practitioners of Lightning Tai Chi eventually achieve an internal strength that manifests itself like thunder in their voices and movements (内劲冲盈 发乎声而显于形).
The practice of Tai Chi has recently come to be seen as more an exercise than a martial art. Yet Master Hsing is firm in his belief that Tai Chi is equal parts both, and he emphasizes this philosophy (体用兼备) when teaching the Lightning Tai Chi form.
